Communicado: New Online Student Resource

Westmoor High School rolled out a new on-line teacher-student/parent communication resource this Friday. The software, called "Communicado", is essentially a web-based bulletin board and database query. Teachers will be able to post up course syllabi, upcoming homework, and grades, while students (and their parents) will be able to view all of the posted materials for their classes, and post on a forum to discuss classes.

Among the features that will be available:
  • Send/receive messages from teachers
  • Check upcoming homework for all classes
  • Look up attendance records
  • Look up grades, both final and tri-semester progress reports
  • View entire course and grade history at Westmoor
  • View standardized test scores
  • Look up current class grades
  • View course syllabi
  • Discuss classes through posts on discussion forums
Most of the features aren't fully operational yet; they should be developed throughout the year, as teachers become familiarized with managing and updating class pages, and students/parents become more familiarized with accessing them.

To sign in to Communicado, you need to register into the system. Go to the login page at http://communicado.juhsd.net/

Click on the "Click here to register!" link, below the text fields for the login, and fill in the appropriate information:
  1. The District should be Jefferson Union High School District
  2. Students should identify themselves as students, and parents as parents (although I don't believe there are any differences between the account types).
  3. Enter your student ID. This is the Westmoor Student ID, the 200xxxx number. If you don't know yours, look at your Student ID card or ask your teacher (or if you're a parent, ask your student or call the school to find out.)
  4. Date of birth is simply your date of birth.
  5. Address is your street address, according to what is you've officially listed in teh school records
  6. Set your own password. You can choose any password, as long as it is at least 8 characters. Retype the password in again.
  7. The registration key is a unique code for each student. This is not the student ID or password. You will need to obtain this key from your teacher (see below for more instructions)
  8. On the next screen, you will be prompted to create a username. This is simply the display name that will appear when you communicate through messages or posts on the discussion boards, so choose anything you'd like.
We've had reports of some registration problems in Communicado, due to some errors in the school's database. For students, if you have a problem with logging in, talk to one of your teachers. For teachers, if a student has trouble logging in, double check the student's records in SASI, and enter in the information for Communicado registration exactly as it's listed.

KeyCode Registration Instructions
For Teachers: You may distribute the Communicado keycodes to all of your students, if you'd like. The keycode can be found in SASI on the 4th page for each student.
For students: Ask any of your teachers for the keycode.
For parents: Ask your student to obtain his/her keycode from the teacher. Alternatively, you can call the school (650.550.7400)

Nathan,
Would you mind if I abridge this article for the parent newsletter being sent home this week?

I will email the shortened version for your approval if you will send me your email.

It says we need a "registration key". How are you supposed to know that when no one gave it to us?? Besides calling the school, can you give it to everyone during school time?????

Hey there anon,

Unfortunately, keycodes haven't been made available to students (nor parents) en masse, although several teachers have just given out keycodes for all of the students in their classes. Just ask any on your teachers to look up your keycode (if they don't know where it is, tell them it's in "SASI" or reference them to this article)

I've included some detailed instructions for teachers, students, and parents. I hope this helps.
