Rained Out: IFD in the Small Gym

| It was a wet lunch for the ASB and other student clubs Friday, as rain forced today's scheduled International Food's Day (IFD) event out of the outdoors quad area and into the crowded small gym. Although it wasn't raining in the morning, byt the time students began arriving to school the storm clouds were already clearly visible in the sky, encroaching in from towards the ocean-side. By third period, drops began falling and a light sprinkle pervaded through until lunch. While the school year's first IFD went off without much of a hitch, the rain today created problems for many clubs. The small gymnasium proved to be a workable location, but the sheer number of table setups and students created a nightmare of logistical problems. A massive crowd lined up at the small PE-hall entraceway, waiting for a long time before all the students could be moved into the gymnasium (the two outdoor entraceways were open but remained largely unused initially, as most students tried to all cram into the single indoor entranceway at once). Inside the crowd was bustling - a literal mass of students, some standing in line, some trying to get around to peruse the food items, and others scrambling around managing the food booths. Somehow in the midst of all the clubs and food, a dancing scene emerged out in the middle of the crowds, as many students began dancing to the music. A crisis emerged right in the middle of the heaviest selling period, when stresses on the power lines - from the heating appliances used by many of the clubs, shorted out a fuse and left several outlets unpowered. Particularly affected was the Drama Club, which was using electric grills to cook hamburgers from raw, and was left with no recourse during one of the busiest periods. For some, such as the Dram Club, solutions were eventually found with extension cords to other outlets, but other tables remained without power for the rest of the day. In total, 21 different student clubs and organizations participated in the event, selling over 25 items. Despite the troubles from packed crowds and shorted fuses, International Food's Day seemed a fairly moderate success for all the clubs and students, especially given the weather conditions. Notes:

It was not the audio system who shorted out a fuse. It was from another source. If it was, then the audio system wouldn't have worked.-

Hey, thanks for commenting (and reading!). It's hard trying reporting everything from a single perspective, so I appreciate the insight. I've made a few chanes in attempt to correct some of the factual errors in the article.-
