WESTMOOR HIGH SCHOOL FBLA ACHEIVES RECORD SUCCESS

Westmoor High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) recently took part in the California FBLA State Leadership Conference and emerged as the 6th ranked chapter the state, improving 3 places over the previous year. California FBLA has about 150 chapters and the state conference attracted over 1,500 participants. A record number of 5 Westmoor members qualified for competition at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL this summer. The qualifiers are Bernadette Dugtong, senior (1st in Database Design and Applications), Aurora Victoria David, junior (2nd in Accounting I), Philana Chan, junior (2nd in Word Processing II), Anita Poon, sophomore (2nd in Computer Applications) and Erin Partlan, senior (2nd in Business Plan). Erin Partlan also won one of only five $1,000 L. Byram Bates Memorial Scholarships. Two members completed high levels of the FBLA Business Achievement Awards. Bernadette Dugtong and Erin Partlan received lapel pins recognizing their attainment of the Leader Award on stage and Erin Partlan will be recognized on stage at the National Leadership Conference for having attained the America Award, the highest level offered in this program. She is one of 7 students in California that achieved this award.

Overall, 12 members placed in the top 10 of their respective events at this conference, and members who placed but did not qualify for nationals are Adrian Aguilar, Lovina Chen, Christopher Chew, Albert Oum, Maggie Ji, Carina Lee and Christine Kyauk. Also, our chapter’s Community Service Project and Partnership with Business Project both took 5th place, headed by Lovina Chen and Aurora Victoria David respectively.

Westmoor FBLA’s success did not begin with the state conference, but rather with a record success at the section level, taking 3rd place in the section with 26 members placing in the top 10 of their event and 18 members qualifying for competition at the state conference.
2006-2007 has been an amazing year for Westmoor FBLA and they were recognized at the state conference as an Outstanding Chapter, also receiving the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.
