Westmoor FHA-HERO Competitors Win At State!

FHA-HERO: Illuminate Tomorrow, Today was this year's theme at the State Leadership Meeting of the California Association FHA-HERO held April 28-May 1, 2007 at Fresno, California.

Westmoor High School had four State Finalists that competed in comptitive recognition events. Rachelle A. Olimpiada, representing the Westmoor FHA-HERO chapter, competed in chapter activites manuel, MaryAnn Carreira competed in table setting and menu planning, Jessica Cabrera competed in Apparel Consturction, all recieving honorable mentions. Katherine Gonzalez, with her "Snow White" themed gingerbread house, competed in culinary art display, recieving first place in her category and best of show. Jennifer Yeung, being on the Region 5's officer team, helped lead the region in the region pride award and won first place for the region scrapbook. Karen Calonico and Denise Fishtrom are the advisors, and teacher Jaymi Phillips helped guide our competitors to success. Overall, Westmoor's FHA-HERO members had one very productive state conference.

The California Association FHA-HERO is a statewide career-technical student organization for young men and women interested in or enrolled in home economics careers and technology programs. Its focus is to prepare students for roles as family members, citizens and workers in some of California's fast growing industries. In California, FHA-HERO activites are coordinated by the Home Economics Careers and Technology Education Unity, and the California Department of Education.
